Clara Chu is a London based multidisciplinary artist and designer. She creates work that re-imagines everyday, mundane objects in our domestic world, mixing mass production with the hand crafted. Visionary and colourful pop accessories challenge the concept of body association with anonymous designs such as a vegetable peeler, or a spoon.
She was selected for the accessories contest of ITS 2020 with her collection "Chew by Chu".
How do we associate our bodies with anonymous designs such as a vegetable peeler, a juicer or a funnel? Through visionary and colorful pop accessories, Clara re-imagined textures of the edible by re-appropriating mundane kitchenware and mixing mass production with the hand-crafted. Her collection idea started from her eagerness to transform an everyday object like Tupperware. She wanted to re-engineer this iconic, repeatedly casted lunch box into a form of fashion accessory. Together with traditional leather bag making techniques and transforming household objects like water bottles, ice-cube trays and jar openers, Clara portrays a playful and eccentric accessories translation.
International Talent Support was launched in 2002 and throughout its history it has developed into the most highly recognized platform to showcase & support the strongest young talents on the planet. Most importantly, it created an ever-growing family supporting creativity, like branches on a tree growing in different directions, yet nurtured by the same roots. It has built an impressive Creative Archive, a unique collection tracing the history of fashion evolution. Many of the over 630 finalists were selected by top fashion brands where they now hold key positions, or have successfully developed their own lines.
